National Corvette Museum – Bowling Green, KY – May 16, 2015

I headed for Bowling Green, KY this morning to go the drag race at Beech Bend Raceway.  The Weather Gods had other ideas though, and it sprinkled rain all the way between Nashville and Bowling Green.  I stopped and got a cup of coffee and looked at the radar, and determined that things were going to get a lot worse before they got any better.  So rather than waste a trip I decided to go the National Corvette Museum, and that was probably the smartest decision I’ve made in a while.

One caveat though: Like most museums this one is designed for visitors to view the exhibits.  That doesn’t necessarily translate that well to photographing the exhibits.  The lighting is designed to illuminate the exhibits from the top which leaves lots of shadows below.  Additionally, the brightly polished finishes reflect the lights creating “Hot Spots” and, in some cases, bands from adjacent colored lights.  And then there is the fact that the exhibits are close together which makes it difficult to get individual photographs of them.  I’m certainly not picking on the designers of these exhibits, to the contrary they are great.  This is a common to virtually all museums, so we just do the best that we can to get decent photographs.

The photo montage shown to the left is pretty interesting.  As can be seen the overall “Wall” photograph is made up of thousands of tiny photographs.

In February, 2014 a large sink hole opened up inside the facility and “Swallowed” several of the Corvettes on display.  Some photographs of the aftermath are included below.  I found the license place on the black Spyder to be rather ironic ;)

A few of the photographs below are photographs of photographs that were on display.  They may be copyrighted material and if so I will remove them if asked.

All in all a great way to spend a couple of hours.  The only drawback was the trip back to Nashville during which the bottom absolutely fell out and it rained as hard as I’ve seen it in a long time.  Next time I go I’m going to pick a sunny day!
