Two organizations held a combined race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL this weekend. The Street Car Super Nationals and the Nostalgia Drag Racing League were both fully represented so between the two I got my race car fix for a day or two. Lots of horsepower, color, noise, and tire smoke, and that’s about all it takes to keep me happy ;)
The Weather Gods did their best to throw a wrench in the works though. Friday was overcast all day and during the afternoon and evening hours thunderstorms blew up everywhere. We watched them on weather radar coming up from the south and then splitting to go around the race track. We never got wet but communities all around us apparently got soaked. More thunderstorms were forecast for Saturday but they never materialized either. Both days were quite hot and humid though, which I could easily have done without. The SCSN was calling the race “Anarchy at the Arch” while the NDRL was calling it “Hot August Nights”. I think the NDRL got it right, but despite the heat a good time was had by all.
