Late each year I start making a list of events I want to visit, places I want to go, and special events I want to watch on television. I’m not a football, baseball, basketball, soccer, or hockey fan so my list is normally composed of motorsports events. As the tracks and organizers and associations start to release their schedules for the upcoming year I keep track of them. The list isn’t 100% motorsports though, there are a lot of things like the Tennessee Renaissance Festival, Zombie Walk, Dragon Boat Race, and other special events I want to try to make.
The list for 2016 had 246 events on it, and admittedly this year they were primarily motorsports events. This year I made it to 30 races and car shows, 5 of which were multi-day events, and watched 70+ on TV. As is usually the case I missed some that I wanted to go to and I saw some that I hadn’t planned on seeing but all in all it was a great motorsports year and I’ve already started the 2017 list!
But 2016 is now over as far as racing goes. Today (11/27) was the last race of the year at the local tracks. NHRA and NDRL are done, IRL and NASCAR are done, even Formula 1 finished up today so I’m looking toward 2017 and an even better year of noise, smoke, and speed!

- (2) Turismo Drift events at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, TN
- (1) Car Show at Kars For Kids in Brentwood, TN
- (1) Car Show at Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN
- (1) NBCC Car Show at Centennial Park in Nashville, TN
Note that I don’t take photographs at every event I go to because sometimes it’s more fun to just watch the race.
