2017 NHRA Lucas Oil Series – Beech Bend Dragway

Another weekend, another run up to Beech Bend! – or – The NHRA Lucas Oil Series comes to Beech Bend Dragway – or – Woo Hooooooooo!

Any way you name it there was a lot going on at Beech Bend this weekend.  The NHRA Lucas Oil Series was running there and they had quite a field of cars on the property.  Everything from stockers to diggers to funny cars all of the classes appeared to be well-represented.  The event ran from Thursday (8/24) through Sunday (8/27) so it was a big event for them.  I only went on Saturday and even then I didn’t stay all day because that race was just the first half of a “Twofer”.  I came home, cleaned up a little bit and went to the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway for the August stock car race.  All in all a good day of racing for me.

Stroll Through The Pits …..

Actually this should have been titled “An Early Morning Stroll Through The Pits” since that is what it was.  It was about 7:30am and most of the cars were still covered, crews having not arrived or finished their coffee in their motor homes, but there were still a good number out and we had an enjoyable stroll around the property.

On The Track …..

Stock Eliminator (and a couple of Factory Stock at the end) …

Super Stock and Super Stock Wheel-Standers …

Super Gas …
The Super Gas class was very well represented at this event.  I didn’t count the number of cars but there were a ton of them!

Super Comp …
Super Comp was a large field as well.  I don’t know if it was larger than Super Gas but it was pretty big.

Top Dragster …
When we start getting into the 250+ cars I have a nasty habit: I enjoy WATCHING them more than I enjoy taking photographs of them.  For that reason when we get this point of a drag race the photographs during a run start to dissipate in direct proportion to my interest in watching the hotrods ;)  I might shoot burnouts or cars sitting still but most of the time I just watch the runs.

Top Alcohol Dragster and Alcohol Funny Car…
I only saw one Top Alcohol Dragster make a run.  Perhaps some others sat that round out, I don’t really know.  There were several Alcohol Funny Cars though so I was happy ;)

Top Sportsman …
I had to get back to Nashville and was unable to stay for the Top Sportsman class, which really disappointed me.  Top Sportsman is one of my favorite Sportsman classes and I really wanted to see them.  But for some reason these two made out-of-sequence passes so I at least got to see them.
